How to reach Kashmir from Jammu

By air

Jammu Airport (IXJ) has connections to Delhi and other hubs. Because Jammu is the gateway to the valley, most travellers from Jammu go to Srinagar by train or by road instead of flying; ask us to compare for your dates.

By train

Jammu Tawi is the railway gateway to the valley. The Vande Bharat train to Srinagar was extended to Jammu Tawi in 2026, and Katra also has a Vande Bharat service to Srinagar. Check IRCTC for current timetables and booking windows.

By road

The Jammu–Srinagar highway is roughly 270 km and is usually a full day's drive depending on weather and traffic. We can arrange a private cab, and we recommend leaving early so you arrive in daylight. See our Kashmir cab booking page.

Send us your flight or train details and we plan the Srinagar pick-up around them. A Vande Bharat train connects Katra and Srinagar and was extended to Jammu Tawi in 2026; timetables change, so check IRCTC.

Travelling from Jammu and Kashmir

Within the region the journey is short, and the Vande Bharat train between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar is a comfortable option. Keep a time buffer for weather, because highway conditions can change quickly.

A suggested route for Jammu travellers

Take a morning departure from Jammu, check in, and use the first evening for a shikara ride. Follow with Gulmarg and Pahalgam, and add Sonmarg as a day trip if the season allows.
