Reaching Kashmir
Pilgrims fly into Srinagar or Jammu, or take trains to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then continue by road. Srinagar is the closer gateway to both base camps; Jammu is the choice for pilgrims travelling by rail. Check airline and IRCTC schedules once your date is allotted.
Road distances (approximate)
- Srinagar to Baltal (via Sonamarg): about 95 km.
- Srinagar to Pahalgam: about 85 to 95 km depending on the route; roughly two to three hours.
- Pahalgam to Chandanwari: about 16 km, where the traditional trek begins.
- Baltal to the holy cave: about 14 km on foot.
- Jammu to Srinagar: around 270 km by road, a full day’s drive.
Journey times vary with traffic, weather and security arrangements. During the yatra season there can be convoy movement and traffic restrictions on the highway, so leave margin.
Cabs for the yatra
We arrange private cabs for airport pickups, base camp transfers and sightseeing. Choose from a sedan, Innova or Xylo, Tavera or Scorpio, Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania depending on group size. See all options on cab booking by vehicle.
Pickup plans
Choose a Srinagar pickup if you fly in, or a Jammu pickup if you arrive by train. Pilgrims who want to travel the whole way by road can read about our by road package.
Practical tips
- Book flights and trains only after your yatra date is allotted.
- Keep a buffer day before and after the yatra.
- Carry your registration papers; checks are frequent on the route.
- Ask us for the day-wise vehicle plan in writing.
