Kashmir Car Rental with Driver – Srinagar Cabs & Taxi Hire

Cars and tourist vehicles with local drivers for airport transfers, sightseeing, day trips and long routes across Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu.

Hire a car with a local driver in Kashmir

Kashmir is a place where the road is part of the holiday. The drive to Gulmarg climbs through pine forest, the road to Pahalgam follows the Lidder river, and the highway to Leh crosses some of the highest motorable passes in the region. A car with a driver who knows these roads means you can look out of the window instead of at the map.

Acme Tour And Travels is a travel agency based in Srinagar, so our cabs are arranged by a local team. We offer cab booking as a stand-alone service and as part of every Kashmir holiday package. Tell us your route and dates and we will recommend a vehicle that suits your group, the season and the roads.

Srinagar → Pahalgamabout 95 km2.5–3 hoursLocal sightseeing points inside Pahalgam may use local cabs.
Srinagar → Sonmargabout 80 km2.5–3 hoursWeather can close the road after heavy rain or snow.
Srinagar → Doodpathriabout 45 km1.5–2 hoursThe last part is a narrower hill road.
Srinagar → Yousmargabout 47 km1.5–2 hoursA quieter meadow route; snow can block it in winter.

Srinagar → Lehabout 420 km1–2 days with an overnight stopUsually open from spring to late autumn; check the pass status before travel.

What decides the car rental price?

  • Vehicle type

A sedan, an Innova and a Tempo Traveller are priced very differently, so choose the smallest vehicle that fits your group and luggage comfortably.

  • Route and number of days

An airport transfer, a day trip and a multi-day tour are quoted differently. Long routes such as Srinagar to Leh include the driver's overnight stay.

  • Season

Tulip season, summer holidays and snow weeks are busy and usually cost more. Winter roads may need chains or a higher-clearance vehicle.

  • One-way or return

A one-way drop on a long route can cost differently from a return trip.

  • What is included

Always ask whether toll, parking and driver charges are in the price. We list them in the quote.

Winter and snow driving

From December to February, snow can slow or close roads to Gulmarg, Sonmarg and the Zoji La pass. A driver who watches road updates, a flexible plan and a vehicle with good ground clearance make winter trips smoother.

Avoid tight schedules on snow days: keep your flight home on a different day from your last big sightseeing trip, and ask us about current road conditions before you leave.

Before you travel

  • Carry a government photo ID for every traveller.
  • Share your flight or train details so the pick-up matches your arrival.
  • Tell us about luggage, children and senior travellers.
  • Keep the driver's and hotel's phone numbers handy.

Kashmir car rental – frequently asked questions

How much does a Kashmir car rental cost?
The price depends on the vehicle, the route or number of days, the season and whether the trip is one-way or return. Our rates are per day for the agreed itinerary, not per kilometre: for Srinagar to Srinagar the non-AC rate starts at ₹2,500 for a sedan, ₹3,000 for an Innova and ₹5,500 for a 12-seater Tempo Traveller (see the full table above), and Jammu to Jammu rates are listed beside them. Fuel, the driver's food and stay, toll, parking and any night halt are included; GST is extra and AC is quoted separately. Leh trips are priced separately.
Do you rent cars with a driver or self-drive?
Our service is a cab with a driver. A driver who knows the mountain roads, the checkpoints and the local rules is usually the easier choice in Kashmir, especially in winter or on hill routes.
Which car is best for a family of four to six?
A sedan such as an Etios or Indigo suits up to four people with light luggage. For five or six people with bags, an Innova or Innova Crysta is the usual choice. For hill roads and rougher stretches, a Scorpio or Tavera gives more ground clearance.
Which vehicle should we hire for a large group?
A Tata Winger or Tempo Traveller suits larger groups. We offer 12-seater, 17-seater and 20-seater Tempo Travellers and the Force Urbania (rates are in the table above); availability is subject to confirmation, so enquire early for busy dates.
Can you pick me up from Srinagar Airport?
Yes. Send your flight details and we plan the pick-up around your landing time. Transfers to hotels, houseboats and the old city are all possible.
Do you offer Srinagar to Leh taxi service?
Yes, we can arrange a car and driver for the Srinagar to Leh route. It is a long journey that usually needs an overnight stop, and the road is generally open from spring to late autumn, so check the dates with us.
Is a one-way drop possible, for example Srinagar to Jammu?
One-way drops on long routes can be arranged. Tell us the pick-up and drop points and dates and we will confirm availability and the quote.
Are toll, parking and driver charges included?
In our holiday packages, toll tax, parking and driver allowances are listed in the inclusions. For stand-alone cab hire as well, the per-day rate includes fuel, the driver's food and stay, toll, parking and any night halt; only GST is extra, and the written quote confirms it.
Can I take the car to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg?
Yes, these are the most common day trips. In some tourist areas local cabs handle the final sightseeing points, and rules can change with the season, so we tell you what applies on your dates.
Is it safe to drive in Kashmir in winter?
Winter driving needs extra care: snow can close roads or slow them down, and chains or a higher-clearance vehicle may be advisable on some routes. A local driver and a flexible plan make a big difference. Travel conditions in Jammu and Kashmir can change, so check the latest advisory from the Indian government and your own country, along with airline and weather updates, before you book. Follow local authorities’ instructions and keep a buffer in your plan. We will tell you plainly what we know about the route and season you have in mind.
How early should I book a cab in Kashmir?
For the busy months, book as early as you can. Tulip season, summer holidays and snow weeks fill vehicles quickly, especially larger groups and Tempo Travellers.
Can I combine a car rental with hotels and sightseeing?
Yes. Our Kashmir packages include the vehicle with the itinerary and hotels. If you only need a cab for a few days, we can arrange that too.
What documents do I need to book?
A phone number and the details of the travellers are enough to confirm a cab. Carry a government photo ID for every traveller for hotel check-in and any checkpoints on the way.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation terms depend on how close the trip is. Please read our cancellation and refund policy before you pay, and ask us if anything is unclear.
Can I customise my Kashmir tour package?

Yes. At Acme Tour & Travels, we can customise your Kashmir package according to your budget, travel dates, group size, preferred hotels, vehicle requirements, and sightseeing interests.

You can request a family holiday, honeymoon package, budget trip, luxury experience, or itinerary that includes offbeat destinations.

We can also adjust the number of nights spent in Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam to make the trip more comfortable. Customisation depends on availability, road conditions, and the feasibility of your requested itinerary.

What are the extra expenses in a Kashmir tour package?

Extra expenses depend on the selected package and itinerary. Common examples include:

  • Gulmarg Gondola tickets.
  • Pony rides.
  • Local union taxis for particular sightseeing areas.
  • Entrance tickets.
  • Optional activities and adventure experiences.
  • Additional sightseeing outside the agreed route.
  • Personal shopping and expenses.
  • Meals or services not included in the selected plan.

We recommend asking for a written quotation that clearly separates included services from optional expenses.

It is also sensible to keep approximately 10–15% of your planned trip budget aside for unforeseen expenses. This is a budgeting suggestion, not a mandatory fee.

Should I book my Kashmir package in advance or after arriving?

We recommend booking in advance, particularly during summer holidays, the tulip season, New Year, and other busy travel periods.

Advance planning gives you a better opportunity to compare accommodation, confirm suitable rooms and vehicles, and organise your preferred itinerary. Availability and rates can change as demand increases.

We have helped travellers who arrived in Kashmir without confirmed hotel and cab arrangements and then struggled to find suitable options at reasonable prices.

For this reason, we recommend confirming your accommodation and transport before departure rather than relying entirely on last-minute arrangements. You can contact our Srinagar team to start planning.

Why should I book with a local Kashmir travel agency?

A reliable local travel agency can help you plan your itinerary using practical knowledge of destinations, accommodation options, transport arrangements, and seasonal travel conditions.

At Acme Tour & Travels, we help customers understand sightseeing requirements, compare accommodation categories, identify potential additional costs, and plan routes at a comfortable pace.

A written quotation and confirmed arrangements also help reduce misunderstandings. Before booking with any agency, check its business details, reviews, payment terms, and written confirmation of services (read about us).

Our approach is to offer honest recommendations and transparent pricing so travellers can make informed decisions.

What happens if bad weather affects my Kashmir itinerary?

Weather conditions, snowfall, road closures, and other local circumstances can affect sightseeing and travel schedules, especially in winter.

If a disruption occurs, the available alternatives depend on the affected route, current conditions, and supplier availability. We recommend keeping some flexibility in your itinerary and avoiding tight connections between destinations.

If changes become necessary, we aim to communicate the available options and discuss any changes affecting the agreed services or price before proceeding, wherever possible (see our cancellation and refund policy).

Travellers should always follow local authorities' guidance when weather or road conditions make travel unsuitable.
